What to do on the weekend

It’s almost weekend! Here are some ideas on how to make your weekend great!

9712752916_eeb63073e6_o.jpgThis weekend it will be amazing weather again, so we decided to go to Jericho beach on Saturday.  Jericho beach has several picnic tables where we could eat our food, so you can take food with you for a nice picnic on the beach or just chill and enjoy the nice weather.

If you are into beer you could go to the opening night of the Vancouver Craft Beer Week at the Roundhouse on Friday night. There will be samples of beer (naturally), food trucks and live entertainment. A ticket for the event is $49 and includes 15 drink tickets.

You could also go to The Richmond Night Market. They opened on May 12th and will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 7 pm till October 9th. They sell a lot of food there, so make sure you go with an empty stomach! The admission is $3.75.

18721359_10209072326626307_1192880159_oWe will be having great weather for the whole weekend, so if you are not able to join us on Saturday then you can also go to one of Vancouver’s many beaches on Sunday. English Bay Beach, Second Beach, Sunset Beach and Kitsilano Beach tend to be a bit busy during days like these, so you might want to consider going to Third Beach or Jericho Beach if you like it a bit more quiet.

You could also use the good weather to go on a hike, but just be careful if the hike is fully in the sun and make sure you stay hydrated!

Review: PuB NiGHT at Mahony and Sons at Olympic Village

Yesterday’s PuB NiGHT was at Mahony and Sons at Olympic Village. It was great to see you all there. Thank you for joining us!

Mahony and Sons is a pub with three locations: Canada Place, UBC and Olympic village. They use a lot of wood in the pubs itself, which gives you an Irish feeling. However, at both Canada Place and Olympic village you can choose to sit outside too. Both locations have amazing views from their patio and are therefore definitely worth checking out. On Wednesdays wines are on special, which means that all bottles are discounted by 50%, so it is a perfect location for the wine fans among us.

18716442_10209597815964306_1927399038_nWe already went to Mahony and Sons at Canada Place before, so decided to go to Olympic village this time where we got a nice spot outside at the terrace. A lot of people were having their own bottles of wine, as we had to make good use of the wine special. As it was already the last PuB NiGHT for some of us, everybody took their books and soon a lot of people were writing. While everyone was writing, I had time to catch up with everyone about the long weekend and it was great hearing all these stories. Once it got dark, we all took our chance to make pictures of the great view of downtown.

I hope you all had a great time, because I certainly did! See you all at Jericho beach or on next week’s PuB NiGHT!

Vargas Island Tour Guide: Activities

The camping trip is only 2 weeks away! Here is another blog to get you totally ready for the trip! This time I will inform you about the activities you can do on the Saturday.

Tofino

There are a few things you can do in Tofino itself. Tofino is known as one of the best surf spots of the world, so when you are there you should definitely try out surfing. There are several surfing schools on the island, so don’t let your lack of experience hold you back! As it is an island, it is perfect for other water sports too such as kayaking and stand up paddling. If you would rather explore Tofino by foot then you could go for one of the hikes around the town, for example the Rainforest Trail!

Whale Watching

IMG_3260.JPGFirst of all, Tofino is known for its whale watching tours. During March and April there are lots of gray whales migrating from Mexico to the north. In May till November there are over 200 gray whales that stay in the waters next to Vancouver Island. Between June and September they have the highest sightings of Humpback whales. So there is a lot of chance that you will see whales if you go on a whale watching tour during our trip!

Hot Springs Cove

There is also a hot spring close to Tofino. If you want to do this tour you even might be able to see some wildlife. When you arrive at the dock in Hot Springs Cove you will first walk through a rainforest and on the end of this walk are the hot spring pools, a waterfall and some great views of the Pacific Ocean.

Meares Island

14229116502_aa92a5f39e_oMeares Island is an island close to Tofino and Vargas Island. There are two hikes on the island. The first hike is the Big Trees Trail. This trail will lead you through world’s largest Western Red Cedar Trees on a boardwalk. The second hike is for more experienced hikers. This hike will get you up the Lone Cone Mountain. It takes around 4-6 hours to go up the mountain and back.

I hope I informed you guys enough about the activities. Next week there will be an update about the schedule! If you would like to know more about the camping trip, then check out our event page. There is only one more week to sign up, so come by the office and sign up to ensure your spot!

PR-team Adventures

In the INTERNeX office we like to do pranks when one of us goes away for a while or just on a random day for fun. As you all know it was Mothers Day a week ago and it was time for another prank. This was not really a prank, more a funny present, but it was still amazing!

I was the first to start at INTERNeX from the current PR-team. As I had 2 more months experience than the others when they started I became the team leader. I already knew a lot about how the PR-department works at INTERNeX and I could explain every aspect to the new girls. Because I was the team leader, our supervisor, Simon, started to call me ‘boss’. I didn’t like to be called the boss as that sounded like I was the one deciding everything, so then the nickname ‘mommy’ was born.

IMG_0944.JPGThe Monday after Mothers Day I came into the office and they bought me a balloon and a card for Mothers day. It was Monday morning so I was really tired from the weekend and I didn’t realize it was for me. After I saw Simon filming me and Iris giving me the card I was so happy! I loved it that they even gave me presents for Mothers Day and I was really happy with the balloon and the card. I was even more surprised when I heard that they already thought of it in February and that they all kept it a secret for that long. Some already did forget about the idea, but it was still impressive as I am normally the one behind the pranks / ideas.

Working in the INTERNeX office is always different and so much fun. The pranks, random presents and the whole team just make it amazing.

See you guys tonight at PuB NiGHT!

Experience IT Review – Stanley Park bike ride

Last weekend we went for a Dutch adventure around Stanley Park. It was great seeing all of you again. Thank you for coming!

Stanley Park is one of Vancouver’s icons and probably one of the first things you go to when you get to Vancouver. There are a lot of places you can explore within the park. All of these places are hard to discover in one day if you go by foot. However, this weekend we all became Dutch and went for a bike ride in Stanley Park. This gave us the opportunity to cover more ground and to see more of Stanley Park.

IMG_3796We were really lucky with the weather and it was just the perfect day to do something outside. You could see that a lot of people were having the same idea, as it was really busy on the bike path around Stanley park. We got our bikes at Spokes bike rental and biked from there to the seawall. There we started our journey and biked over the seawall around Stanley Park. Soon we reached our first stop where we had a great view over downtown Vancouver. Here we started a small photoshoot with our bikes. After we took the pictures we continued to Brockton point lighthouse where we got our second stop. Once we got the pictures, we got back onto our bikes and passed several nice viewings such as the Shiwash rock and Third beach. As I am always quite unlucky, it was no surprise that my bike broke and I had to leave all of you from there on. Luckily, you were more lucky and went to the Lost Lagoon. After that you brought your bikes back and went for an ice cream at Dairy Queen to cool off again.

Thank you all for bringing a bit of the Netherlands to Vancouver for us and I hope to see you all on PuB NiGHT!

What to do on the weekend?

It is Friday again and you know what that means, right? Time to get out of the house and celebrate the weekend. This weekend will be a long weekend, so you will have lots of time to explore British Columbia and Vancouver.

18195054_10155240525552103_6049775120854058037_nWe were already really lucky with the weather and it is getting better and better, which is why it is time to do outdoor activities. In this way we can enjoy the sun to the fullest. Therefore is INTERNeX planning a bike ride through Stanley Park on Sunday. You may have already seen the totem poles, but there are so many other things to explore in this amazing park.

There are also several events taking place during this weekend, such as the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair and the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival. The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair is a festival which is 4 days in total. This event is especially for the cowboys and cowgirls in our group. So let your inner cowboy free during this great festival. The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival is a festival with several comic-related events. These include readings, presentations, discussions and a big exhibition area. If you like comics, then this is definitely the place to go!

Besides that you can also go to Tagore Spring Festival in Surrey on Saturday. There are various kinds of performances, including dance, music and poetry. Next to that you can also learn a bit more about the Canadian culture while you watch presentations about all the different traditions and heritages. The festival is paid by donation, so definitely worth checking out!

17352379_10208531571187759_1886154942491608944_nIf you would rather watch sports during this weekend, you could go to the BC Place Stadium on Saturday and watch the Vancouver Whitecaps play against Sporting Kansas City. Of course, you could also go to one of the great sports bars in Vancouver. When you would rather spend your time outside because of the expected good weather, then you could go to one of Vancouver’s great beaches such as English Bay, Jericho Beach and Kitsilano Beach.

I hope you will have a great weekend! See you in Stanley Park or at next week’s PuB NiGHT!

Review: PuB NiGHT at the Charles Bar

Yesterdays Pub Night was at the Charles Bar in Gastown and we had a great night again! It is a more quiet bar then we are used to, but we still had a blast and we were happy to see you all again!

The Charles Bar is located in the famous Woodward’s building. It is a V-shaped pub with lots of choices in food and drinks. There are big TV screens around the whole pub, which makes it easy to watch sports. In the weekend it is pretty busy and it has local Vancouver DJs.

I18575359_1755589474456496_262144517_ot was a great night with lots of talking and some drinks. We had lots of fun hearing your travel stories. Unfortunately it was Nicholas’ last PuB NiGHT so we wrote some nice stories about him on his Canadian Flag. It is sad to see quite some people are leaving in May, but there are also quite some new people coming in and there are so many fun PuB NiGHTS coming up!

Thank you all for last night and hopefully see you guys in Stanley Park this weekend!
