Experience IT Review – Vancouver Jazz Festival

On Saturday we had a great day in the sun at the Vancouver Jazz Festival and on English Bay Beach!IMG_4332.jpg

We met in front of the London Drugs on Georgia Street and when everyone arrived we decided to get some lunch first. So we went to the Pacific Centre, where there was a stand with people holding a canoe over their head and taking pictures. So we decided we wanted one too and ended up looking very Canadian.

After we got our lunch in the Pacific Centre food court we went to the Vancouver Jazz Festival. This festival takes place every year with venues all over town and this weekend there was a free event at Robson and Georgia. We went there, sat down in the sun and listened to the music.

After a while we were all really hot from sitting in the sun so we decided to go to English Bay Beach to enjoy the rest of our day. We all got matching beach towels at Dollarama and relaxed in the sun.

Thank you all for coming and I hope to see you all at PuB NiGHT!

CANUCKS VS. SHARKS

Yesterday evening was an amazing night IMG_3114for all of us and especially for me. I have never seen an ice hockey game before and I guess for most of you it was also the very first time you saw an ice hockey game here in North America. That’s actually a chance you don’t get that often. In addition to that I got to know all of you and I had the chance to talk to some of you. I hope we will enjoy a lot more events and trips together.

But now back to the game last night. Unfortunately the Canucks lost their second pre-season game without a goal although they had much more chances to shoot a goal than the Sharks. However I would say we could be happy to join at least one match of the Vancouver Canucks during our time here. It was just such an amazing feeling to be part of it (although I didn’t get and still don’t get the rules).

What I can tell you, but only because I did some research is that, there is an overtime period, IMG_3124which takes five minutes with 3-on-3 hockey players. If the score is tied after this overtime, it results in a shootout. But as we all know the score wasn’t tied so we couldn’t see a shootout. But that doesn’t matter because there were so many other things to see and to experience. For me it was a gorgeous start to my time here in Vancouver. I hope they will play better during the regular season.

GO CANUCKS!

INTERNeX Canada: The secret of the Canadian Happiness

A recently studio says that Canada is the 6th happiest country in the world (the first one is Denmark, if you feel curious). The study, supported by the United Nations, contemplates many factors like life expectancy, GDP per capita, social support, generosity of fellow citizens, state of the economy, perceptions of corruption and freedom to make life choices.

This result doesn’t surprise me at all. Everybody has a smile here, everybody is polite and nice. Even the police.

I’m here for almost 5 months and I still feel surprised about the kindness of the people. Is very common that somebody come to you in the middle of the street only to say you: Hey! I really love your tights! And the other day I found the following notice in a Liquor Store:

“We are obligated to ask for two pieces of ID to all the people under 30. So don’t be angry with the employees if they ask you for your documents, it’s a compliment”.

After a while, is logical to realize that if they are so nice, is because they feel happy.

So, I decided to make a sociological investigation about the factors that explain why the Canadians are so happy.

– Obviously, one of the main reasons is that Canada is a rich country. They have a good economy, it’s easy to get a job and there are a lot of resources for a small population.

– The social cover is pretty good here, other reason to feel safe. Have universal health care and public education is one of the foundations of a happy society. This is one the biggest differences when you compare Canada with USA.

– Equality and tolerance. It’s also a country where the differences between the social classes are not very big, and other cultures are usually welcomed. I repeat, in general, it’s impossible to extend one opinion over a whole country. There are stupid people everywhere.

So up to now, we can find these factors in others countries with a good position into the ranking. But, what factors are exclusively Canadians, what makes Canada so especial, what is impossible to find in other place?

– The amazing nature. With all this beautiful landscapes around you is impossible to feel bad. And practicing outdoor activities, be in contact with the nature, is very easy even if you live in a big city.

– Hippie culture heritage: maybe is my impression, but I think that some concepts of the 60’s hippie culture are still present in the global values of the Canadian society. Apart of be nice and take care of the environment, there are other things. For example, be easy-going is almost a must here, at least into the young community. And is very common to hear expressions like “good o bad vibrations” or “harmony” and they have a strong sense about being a community.

– Avoid the critics or negatives comments are another very common features inside the Canadian society. This behavior sometimes drives the Europeans crazy, because is impossible to know if they really think that you are so amazing or they really hate you.

– Freedom: in my opinion the social codes are more relaxed here. For example, the other day I went to a hospital and my nurse was completely full of tattoos and she had green hair, which is completely impossible to find is Spain.

Anyway, this is only a personal opinion. If you want, you can share with us you more shocking experiences with the Canadian way of life.

Take care!

Clara.

INTERNeX Canada: Casual Friday – Proud of being canadian!

It´s interesting to see how proud canadians are of their Nation. Canada Day is coming, and Molson Canadian did an awesome commercial in Europe to promote the Canadian beer.

Molson Canadian has been known as a great advertising company, specifically known for advertising the lifestyle of Canadians with phrases like “This is our Beer” and “this is our land.”

In this ad, you can see how Molson Canadian distributed Red fridges through Europe with a white Canadian Leaf.

Everybody tried to open the fridge, but unfortunately it had a passport reader, so just those with a Canadian Passport could open it. (lucky them ..hehe). Then beer for everybody!!

I personally think that it was a good guerrilla campaign..very attractive and creative. I hope this Company surprises us with a guerrilla campaign very soon.

What do you think about it?? Did you see another interesting one that you want to search?

I hope you enjoy this commercial, and I wish u a wonderful weekend !

Best,

Mercedes
