What to do on the first weekend of 2024?

It’s the first weekend of 2024!! So what can you do? When in doubt… check out our blogposts for some awesome suggestions lol!

Well firstly, you can get started on your new year’s resolutions – hit the gym, spend time with your friends, eat a salad, organize your room or desk… Let’s be real, that’s not what we’re doing our first weekend lmao! But if you’re trying to save money, I have something for you: INTERNeX is going to Bright Nights at Stanley Park, which is a free event. 😄 This week is the last week where it’s running, so we have to go check it out! There’s thousands of fairy lights, nutcrackers, familiar movie characters as well as food & drinks!
Besides this one, there are also a ton of other light displays in and around Vancouver, like Lights at Lafarge, Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, Lights on the Lake at Harrison Hot Springs, Heritage Christmas at Burnaby Village, Festival of Lights at VanDusen Garden, Bright Walk in White Rock and many more!

Since it’s still cold and likely to get even colder this month, you could also try to go skiing or snowboarding! There’s a lot of different options on where to go. You can go to Sun Peaks in the rockies or Whistler which are a little further from Vancouver or if you’d like to stay closer you might wanna try Grouse Mountain. INTERNeX went there for new year’s this past weekend and it looks amazing, so you should definitely check it out!
If you don’t like skiing or snowboarding, you might wanna try snowshoeing or snow tubing, which are both super fun!! For snowshoeing you’re basically going on a little hike in the snow, wearing shoes that make it easier to walk on the snow. And for snow tubing you get into an inflatable inner tube at the top of a hill and ride it downhill, kind of like a sled.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you can enjoy your first weekend of 2024 to the fullest and spend your time doing some fun winter activities! Make sure to tell me about what you did next Pub Night!

Toodles!

What to do on the Weekend

There are lots of options for what to do this weekend – but the best is joining us at the INTERNeX Summer Party! Sun’s out! Time to get the grill out. We can’t wait to meet you on Saturday the 12th at Spanish Banks. The get-together will start at 4PM. Hot weather perfectly suits a party on the beach – but keep in mind that it could be windy in the evening, so prepare to bring a sweater with you and lots of water to hydrate in the heat. What’s also not to be forgotten – something to sit on. Whether it’s a blanket, a towel or a camping chair. 🙂 If you need a different way to cool down during the day, bring a swimsuit so you can go for a dip in the ocean.
Veggie Dogs or Hotdogs? We’ve got both. And if you are more into other bbq stuff – feel free to bring additional food to grill on our little bbq.

You’ll be surprised by lots of fun games and competitions – Of course the winners will get cool prizes. Let’s toast to an amazing summer with you. For that don’t forget to bring your own beverages #BYOB 🙂 Bring plenty as there’s no other liquor store nearby. To get more beachy and summer vibes – we would love to see at least one colourful item on you!

If you’re more into a nature activity and wanna see more of Canada’s beautiful landscapes, we would totally recommend you going to Whistler. It’s a one and a half hour bus drive from Vancouver and costs about 45$ for a roundtrip. When we first arrived in Whistler, it all seemed like we were in a Disney movie. Whistler Village looks like a small town with really beautiful and small houses.
Moreover the Olympic Winter Games took place in Whistler in 2010 – therefore you can also see the olympic rings there, take pictures with them and feel like an Olympic Games’ champion
for once 😉 (at least that’s how we felt).

Not only can you experience strolling in the small village – but also you’re able to get a one day pass for the different gondolas you can find in Whistler and go up different mountains. We chose going up the Blackcomb Mountain Gondola and after we enjoyed the beautiful view, we took the Peak to Peak Gondola to ride from Blackcomb to Whistler mountain. When you arrive on Whistler mountain you’re also able to use another gondola (I know, lots of gondolas – right?) to get to the peak of Whistler Mountain – although I was really scared riding all the different gondolas, it was totally worth it !!! So 10/10 recommendation !!!!

Cheers,

What to do on the weekend?

What to do on the weekend?

Hi guys! Last week Anna and Chiara did their last blog post on WordPress. Now it’s time for us to take over. We got exciting plans for the upcoming weekend!

Our destination for Saturday is a place that’s well-known in the INTERNeX family. The town is known for its role during the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 that took place in Vancouver and is also known as “mountain-mekka”.

Some of you might have already guessed it… we’re talking about Whistler!

Whistler is a dreamy village in the coast mountains of British Columbia just 2 hours north of Vancouver.

Other than hosting a part of the Olympic Winter games it is known for its beautiful glacier-fed lakes, forests, waterfalls and parks, as well as its biking and hiking trails that can be found all around the village.

There are lots of awesome activities you can do such as riding the summer bobsleigh, kayaking in the local rivers or you can have an adrenaline rush by riding down one of the ziplines that start at the top of the mountains as well as bungee-jumping.

For those of you who like to take things more slowly, Whistler offers the world’s highest and longest gondola that connects the top of two mountains and allows you to get an awesome view all over the valley.

If you consider yourself fearless and tough, there are some glacier-lakes waiting for you! So feel free to bring some bathing clothes if you seek an ice cold adventure.

We’re already excited to share this experience with you!

Another great event is Greek Day, which is scheduled for Sunday. Greek Day will take place on Broadway and is hosted and organized by the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC!

As one of Vancouver’s most highly anticipated summer street festivals, Greek Day on Broadway 2023 will take place on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Get ready to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Vancouver’s Greektown, located in the Kitsilano neighborhood.

Greek Day on Broadway is an annual community street festival that spans multiple blocks, bringing together locals and visitors alike to celebrate the heritage and culture of Greece. This event promises a day filled with joy, music, dance, as well as delicious Greek cuisine.

The event is starting at 11am on Sunday and will last till 9pm. Beyond the festivities, Greek Day on Broadway features a marketplace where you can explore stalls filled with art, crafts, jewelry and fashion. Great opportunity to look for some souvenirs!

We (Roman,Elias and Nadine) will be there around 3 pm, so feel free to join us. Or you can just explore the Greek vibe by yourself, that’s up to you 🙂.

If some of you didn’t get enough or you just want to explore something else, here is another idea to have an awesome day.

Since the other two events could be rather exhausting we were thinking of promoting a local beach to you. As simple as it is, a day at the beach relaxes even the busiest soul.

Since me (Roman) and Elias went to Sunset Beach lately and thought it was very beautiful,

We recommend checking it out for yourself!

The beach is located at the West end of Vancouver and connects with English Bay Beach, which means there is a large area filled with Sand right next to the sea.

We also convinced ourselves to go for a little swim, but it was very cold so we only stayed in the water for around 5 minutes.

Still, it can be very refreshing on a hot day and we recommend you to try it!

Right next to the beach there are some food spots, too, such as a little kiosk that offers a tasty hotdog.

If this beach isn’t nearby you, here are some other ones: second/third beach at Stanley park, Kitsilano beach. So feel free to check them out and tell us if you enjoyed it!

How was the weekend?

Did you stay warm this past weekend, or did the snow get you?
For me it was little bit of both. INTERNeX went to Whistler on Saturday for a fun day trip. When we arrived the streets of the little village were mostly snow free. A bunch of us went straight up the mountain for some skiing and snowshoeing while others went to grab a coffee and explore the area.

As the caffeine kicked in our group was excited to slide down the small snow hill nearby the Olympic Rings, but soon we longed for bigger, better, faster, so we decided to go Tubing! A quick free ride with the gondola led us to the tubing lanes. Luckily, it wasn’t busy so we got right into it! There were single and double tubes to choose from and a ‘magic carpet’ carried us up the hill. It was actually my first time tubing and let me tell you, I wasn’t disappointed! The staff gives you a nice spin and down the hill you go! I was screaming of joy and felt like I was on a roller coaster. If only we had some goggles though! Snow blowing into our faces as we crashed down the hill made it hard to look around, but honestly the feeling itself was already worth the experience.

After we let out our inner child we went back into the village for a round of ice skating. I heard someone kissed the ice quite a few times. 😀 We rewarded ourselves at a Happy Hour with food and drinks, recharging the energy we’ve just spent out in the snow. A few adventure junkies still haven’t had enough though and therefore went on a snowmobile tour, how cool, is that? I heard it was totally worth it, you explore the nature while going up to 45km/h on the snowmobile which apparently is harder to drive then it first seems. Hungry from all the action we had our early dinner due to the snow storm that was rolling in.

By 4.30pm the first empty streets were filled with snow and it kept on snowing causing many small accidents on the Highway leading to major delays and a little bit of concern which is why we had to leave Whistler as early as possible in order to get everyone back home safe and sound. Thankfully our driver was very experienced and we were back in Vancouver early enough to avoid any snow craziness. Apart from that I believe we had a really great trip! I’m already looking forward to the next one. 🙂

Allover I’d say we stayed warm through all the activities, but the snow got us in the end by forcing us to rush home earlier than we wanted.

How about you? What was your weekend like?

Can’t wait to hear about it. 🙂

Cheers,

Laura

What to do on the weekend? – Snowy Ideas

This weekend will be breezy with a good chance of snow in Vancouver! So, what’s there to do?

One thing that’s always a good idea is a trip to Whistler. Come with us on our day trip to guarantee a snowy weekend in the mountains of BC. Whether you want to ski, snowboard, ride a snowmobile, go dogsledding, tubing, snow shoeing, ice skating, zip lining, or maybe explore the village with less action loaded activities like the peak 2 peak gondola, a day at the Scandinavian Spa, a visit at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, or other indoor activities like Ax Throwing, or an Escape Room adventure. Whistler offers so much, I’m sure there’s something to do for every preference and budget. Sometimes I like to just sit at one of the many great cafes, drink a hot beverage and warm up from strolling along the snow covered village paths, really can’t go wrong with that! Saying that, make sure you dress warm enough, the air is always a little colder up North than it is down here in Vancouver! I recommend multiple layers of warm functional wear. Also don’t forget to pack according to the activities you’ve planned, e.g. want to go to the spa? – Bring a Bikini. I sure am excited for our Canadian Winter adventure. 🙂

If you choose to stay here, there are multiple other things you could do. How about you visit one of the local mountains, like Grouse? There you also have the chance to go ski, snowboard, snowshoe, or just sightsee what the mountain has to offer e.g. the Light walk which I would recommend after dark and imagine there’s actually snow falling while you walk through this magical winter wonderland! You can easily get there by public transit. There’s also a cafe at the top where you can warm yourself up with a hot beverage and some food. 🙂 On your way you could also stop at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park which lights up your gloomy winter days with many colourful installations along the trails! Perfect for some nice Instagram shots, or to get a little happiness boost during this dark and cold season. 😉 If there’s actually going to be snow, then I imagine it to be extra pretty!

If you’d rather escape the cold temperatures this weekend why don’t you go to the movies? My recommendation is to check out some of the movies VIFF (Vancouver International Film Festival) is showing. I assure you it’s different from watching the same old Hollywood Blockbusters. VIFF shows extraordinary films that can be entertaining, educational, empowering, encouraging and much more. You’ll find local artists, artists of colour and you’ll probably walk away thinking about what you’ve watched for a little while after your visit. ‘VIFF encourages understanding of the world’s cultures through the art of cinema.’ Since they are a not-for-profit organization you’d also support what they do by going to one of their movies. Why not try something new and different? Maybe you’ll like it. 🙂 And did I mention their delicious popcorn? I usually get it buttered and I feel like I can smell it right as I’m writing this. 😀

Let me know what you’ve been up to at our next Pub Night! Can’t wait. 🙂

See ya,

Laura 🙂
