Ready for a fresh dose of our new ‘kids’ on the blog? Let’s goooo! 😄
First up is Moritz (he/him) who is 22 years old and from Worms, Germany. He’s here to volunteer at a wildlife rescue centre for 12 weeks. Before he left back home he did an internship in banking until January. In his free time Moritz likes to go to the gym and he used to play soccer as well. He also enjoys hiking a lot – well you’ve come to the right place! Vancouver is literally surrounded by mountains and there’s so many awesome options where you can go hiking! The local mountains are awesome during sunshine, but honestly in Winter I prefer something like Lighthouse Park!
Moritz came to Canada because he’s been here before, a few years ago. He now wants to improve his English and wants to explore the nature – let me tell you, hiking is a great way to do that! His first impression of Vancouver (after coming back) is that the people are really nice here! Someone immediately helped him with his compass card even though he didn’t ask for help! I agree that the people here are very friendly and open!
Once he’s finished here, he plans to go back home and start studying a combination of economics and IT in Frankfurt. While he’s in Vancouver though, he definitely wants to go to a Hockey Game (sounds awesome, especially with how well the Canucks are doing!) He also wants to see Whistler and Grouse Mountain and he wants to visit the Vancouver Art Gallery. A little tip: look out for “Free First Friday Nights” for the Art Gallery. Fun fact: Moritz has actually volunteered before at a soup kitchen back home, which is part of the reason why he’s chosen to do another volunteer project now.
Next up is Martin who is from France. Back home he was a student at a business school and now he’s here to improve his English because he wants to work internationally in the future. Right now he’s still doing a language course for this reason, but soon he’s gonna start his internship at the Film Festival.
In his free time Martin likes meeting friends and going out to a pub (perfect for our Pub Nights, eh?). He picked Canada because, like Moritz, he’s also been here before, but in the eastern part and now he wants to explore one of the big cities in West Canada… well there aren’t that many to choose from lol! His first impression of Vancouver is that the buildings and the architecture is quite different from European cities because there are a lot more skyscrapers in Vancouver. He also agrees that the people here are very kind and friendly.
Once he’s finished his internship, he wants to go back home to study for two more years and while he’s in Vacncouver he definitely wants to go to Whistler and he’d love to go skiing. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend Whistler for that tho lol! Whistler is known for being super expensive for skiing, so I suggest one of the local mountains or Sun Peaks. INTERNeX actually did a ski trip there last year and it was a lot of fun!! Fun fact: ???
I hope that you two have a fantastic time here in Vancouver and that you can make many awesome memories here! Hope to see ya next Pub Night!
Take care!
