Sarah is 23 and joining us from the lovely country of Germany. She is also taking part in a practicum program where she will be learning all about marketing and event planning. At home Sarah studies Economics and she focuses mostly on marketing. She has been to London and in one month she completed an english course.
Sarah doesn’t have an exact idea of what she expects from Vancouver so its our job here to help her discover the most and have the best experience.
3ffcb1ed-71cf-499e-bce7-02d1c73a124fAntonia is also from the beautiful country of Germany and will be attending language school here in Vancouver and has many plans to travel and work. During her time here she is open to new experiences and would love to see the beautiful sights here and also around Rocky Mountains.
Antonia has told us lots about how she has been skiing in Italy and Austria and would love to experience skiing here too.
We are looking forward to Sarah and Antonia joining us tonight for their first PuB Night so please help them feel welcomed. See you all at 7pm at The Spaghetti Factory!!!
Cheers,

Winter is coming, take advance now!

Are you planning to be around for the winter? Looking to do some skien or snowboarding this winter? Than make sure you buy your winter passes now! Most Ski resorts have a early bird special, meaning if you buy your winter pass now you’ll save big bucks!

Snow rarely falls in the city, yet living in Vancouver gives you the chance to enjoy some of the best downhill and cross-country ski facilities in North America.

With mountains such as Grouse Mountain, Cypress and Mount Seymour, just outside Vancouver residents and tourists can hardly resist the urge to strap on snowboards, skis or snow shoes throughout the winter months.  Two hours north of Vancouver are the mountains Whistler and Blackcomb. The first mountain you might recognize as the host of the Olympics, Blackcomb is the neighbor mountain and since the opening of the Peak- Peak gondola it is easily accessible for all ski and snowboard fans!

Click on the following links to find out more about the ski mountains and their season passes:

Cypress Mountain

Mount Seymour

Whistler Blackcomb

Grouse Mountain

I wish I was still here when the winter starts, so I can ski one of these beautiful mountains! Be sure to get the winterpass soon most Pre-seasons sales close at Sept. 30th!

Candidate Exposé

For the past month, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Simone. She flew in from the Netherlands and came to explore Canada on October 15, 2009. I’ve gotten the chance to hang out and party with Simone while living at the INTERNeX staff house, and she is so full of character! It’s evident in her laugh that she’s been having a blast in Vancouver, and she recently got to show her family around town too while they came for a visit!

Why did you decide to come to Canada?
Well, it was really hard to get a visa for the United States. Vancouver was the next closest thing and the Olympics were going to be held there so that’s what helped me make my decision.

How did you find out about INTERNeX?
I found out about INTERNeX through a dutch organization called Travel Active.

What program are you currently participating in?
I am in the Hospitality program doing a city placement at Blenz.

What do you enjoy about your job?
I love working with other international people, some of which are my roommates and housemates.

What skills do you use at work?
I have to multi-task and have great social skills.

What would you tell others about Canada as a country?
It is beautiful – a lot like Europe. People are really nice here… almost too nice!

Can you sum up your experience in Canada?
It is an awesome time to get to know life and more about myself.

What kind of activities have you done since living in Canada?
I’ve seen a lot of nature, been to the Rockies, and visited lots of areas within Vancouver such as Granville Island, Metrotown and many different beaches!

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to travel more all over the world, and maybe come back to Canada to work on a farm. Eventually though I would like to settle down back at home in the Netherlands.

Not sure which program is for you? Visit http://www.internexcanada.com for more information on how INTERNeX can make your trip to Canada happen!

Toronto’s Bike Month

Living in, or near Toronto? Well INTERNeX wants you to take advantage of this awesome event! If you own a bike and would like a FREE breakfast, then make your way to The Bike Joint at 290 Harbord Street. This Friday (June 4), the Bike Joint will host their annual free breakfast which includes muffins, and a once over for your bike!

Have to work in the mornings? Not to worry, for only $5.00 you can participate in the Bluffs, Beers and Pizza event. Also being held on June 4, this official Bike Month Event features a bike ride though parks and residential areas until you arrive at the Scarborough Bluffs for a romantic sunset view, and pizza dinner in the park.

Have a bike, but it’s getting a bit old and could use some attention? No worries! Bring it to one of the bicycle service stations, which are placed all throughout the city along popular bike routes as they are offering free air and safety checks.

These are only a couple of examples of the many activities being organized all throughout the month. Bike month is an annual event designed to promote the use of bikes in the city.

For a complete event calendar for all the events during the Toronto Bike Month click here.

So use this month to have some fun getting to know Toronto, while also getting some great exercise!

Let us know what you think of the bike month and which activities you would like to check out! Have fun and pedal hard!
