INTERNeX Canada: Upcoming events!

A beautiful sunny Monday morning in Vancouver…I can’t wait for the summer! But wait, what’s planned for the upcoming events?

Sushi Dinner Night

Don’t hate me, but I think sushi in Europe cannot compare to the ones in Vancouver. Seriously, we have the best Japanese cuisine and all-you-can-eat sushi! I know some people might not be a fan of seafood…or anything that tastes fishy. But trust me, it is so delicious. If you’ve never tried them…it’s about time, don’t you think? Try california rolls, dynamite rolls, terriyaki chicken, spicy tofu, spicy tuna, and so much more! After all-you-can-eat sushi, everyone I know including me says they’ll never eat sushi again…of course that’s a lie. It’s so addicting!

When: Saturday April 20th

Where: TBA

Find out more information here on our Facebook event page!

Richmond Go-Kart!

wow so intense…the guy in the back looks like Mr. Smith from the Matrix O_o

Do you think mother nature will finally give us a break and show some sun? Join us next weekend as you get to drive around the track, racing your friends! Boys…you know you’re gonna love this! And girls, don’t worry…when you win against the guys, just imagine how sweet the victory will be as you laugh at their faces. Prove them wrong that girls CAN drive…better than guys 😉

Where: 6631 Sidaway Road, Richmond

When: Saturday April 27th

Visit here for more information to be updated soon!

If you aren’t interested in these events, don’t worry, there will be plenty more in just a few weeks! Besides, I think it’ll be sunny more often now.

Flora

INTERNeX Canada: Culture Shock – food edition

Enjoying Canada? You probably already discovered a lot of Canadian things to do here. But there is also food that you need to try while you are here, you can’t leave Canada without it! Check out these Canadian treats:

Poutine
This is of course the very first thing to try in Canada! It’s French fries covered with brown gravy and topped with fresh cheese curds. You can also add meat in your poutine. It is best enjoyed at three AM after a long club night and a couple of drinks!

Maple syrup
In Canada you can find ANYTHNG with maple syrup in it. There is maple tea, maple cookies, maple ice cream, maple candies, maple wine, maple butter, maple sugar, even maple soap – the list is endless. It’s best with pancakes or crêpes; add banana pieces and you have the real Canadian breakfast!

Beaver tail
Don’t worry, Canada will not make you eat beaver meat. Beaver tail is a sweet treat: it’s a flat piece of dough that is fried and then covered with different delights like chocolate, maple syrup, cinnamon, sugar, nuts (not all at once, you can choose). The shape of the dough and the chocolate stripes they usually put on top make it look like a beaver tail.

Tim Hortons
Originated in Canada, Tim Hortons is THE Canadian icon. Of course they have donuts everywhere, but try the Maple Dip Donut! Timbits are truly Timmy’s invention, can’t leave Canada without having had a box of Timbits. And have a double double for your drink, just because you feel so local when ordering it…

Oreo
You might know Oreo cookies, they are pretty good. But things made out of Oreo cookies are even better. Start out with a McDonalds Oreo McFlurry; there is a lot of gelato shops with Oreo ice cream, too. Then, there are Oreo cakes out there, the best treat ever! And if you dare, try fried Oreos – a cookie covered with dough, fried and served hot. Sounds odd but it is incredibly tasty as the cookie melts inside!

Nanaimo bars
This one is not only Canadian, it’s even local! It is named after the West-Coast city of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, BC. The Nanaimo bar is a dessert made of a wafer crumb-based layer, a light vanilla layer or custard flavoured butter icing, and covered in chocolate. What else is there to say?

That’s my list, I tried them all. Or did a forget anything? Do you have more Canadian delights? Comment!

Summer 2010 List

So now that I am done all my final exams and papers I have started to put together a list of all the places, activities, foods, etc I am determined to do/try. Once I have completed these items I will let you know about them and give you a little bit of an introduction to these list items and perhaps you could try them yourself!

1) Number one on my list, surprise surprise it involves food. As some of you know today is my 22nd birthday so I have taken the entire day off to celebrate and I am filling it with all the things that I love. Starting off the day with a nice session at the Steve Nash Gym cause I am going to be indulging in some serious treats and I want to feel guilt free when I do. After my gym session I will be heading over with some of my friends to the Medina Cafe located downtown at556 Beatty Street, between Pender & Dunsmuir.

This quaint little cafe is known around the city for its unique bistro-inspired food served simply and conveniently in a comfortable, chic environment reflecting the lifestyle and desires of the neighbourhood and Vancouver at large. Medina provides a fresh and eclectic alternative with a pioneering attitude towards café culture.
Sister to neighbouring night time hot spot Chambar, Medina is a quaint café serving connoisseur-savvy coffee, Belgian waffles for sweet sustenance and a full breakfast, lunch, and brunch menu comprised of eclectic dishes created by co-owner and chef, Nico Schuermans.

When I go later I will for sure be trying their infamous Lavender Latte, will let you know how it goes!

2) The other week after my last final I headed out with one of my good friends to just have a great meal at one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets. Locate on the vibrant Davie Street at 1326.

This small Mexican Restaurant boasts some of the best food in the area and offers some reasonably priced menu items. I recommend starting off with the guacamole dip which comes with several layers of flavorful dips and a side of oven baked tortilla chips. Oh and of course you need some drinks to start the whole thing off!

Lolita’s is famous for its pint sized sangria cocktails filled with lots of tropical fruit to sink your teeth in. I might have had a few of those so I highly recommend those, they make you feel like your sipping them somewhere tropical. Its nice way to temporarily escape from your realities. After the appetizers, we moved onto the main course and we decided to share the halibut tacos…yum! After that meal were stuffed but the atmosphere was just so relaxed that we ended up staying there for a few hours. This restaurant is a little hidden so keep your eyes out for it! Great place for a date night too *winkwink*

Ciao for now
